With the new semester just around the corner, we are trying to squeeze in every last summer activity we can before being bogged down with assignments and responsibilities. The summer isn’t just for kayaking, hiking, amusement parks, and other outdoor activities though. One of the best parts of summer is the guilt-free binging of your favorite Netflix shows. In case you’ve run out of ideas, here is a compilation of the 10 best shows to binge before heading back to class.

1. Stranger Things

In case you’ve been living under a rock this past year, you need to catch up with arguably Netflix’s best original series to date before the new season premiers Oct. 27th. When a young boy goes missing the entire town of Hawkins, Indiana turns upside down. With the whole town looking for him, they happen upon stranger and stranger things and stumble upon a supernatural trail that leads to a weird little girl with a shaved head.

2. New Girl

Zooey Deschanel’s quirky Jessica Day moved into Nick, Schmidt, and Winston’s loft seven seasons ago and this final 8-episode season will hopefully wrap up all the loose ends fans have been agonizing over since the end of season 6. This quirky comedy follows Jess as she deals with her breakup from her boyfriend and moves into a loft with three other guys. Through all the ups and downs of life, love, and everything in between these strangers formed an unlikely, unbreakable bond.

3. Parenthood

Starring “Gilmore Girls” alum, Lauren Graham you can catch all 6 seasons of this show and really get your binge on. Centering around four siblings, their kids, and the parents who started it all and the trials and tribulations this family goes through after years of burying their problems beneath the surface slowly start to emerge.

4. Orange is the New Black

If you haven’t heard of this show, you must not be on social media or go out much. This Emmy-nominated series follows the story of usually law-abiding Piper Chapman who was convicted of transporting drug money to an ex-girlfriend and her life changing year behind bars.

5. Nurse Jackie

If you love “Grey’s Anatomy” and “House”, then get ready to binge all 7 seasons. This off-beat and quirky dramedy follows the title character, Jackie, as a drug-addict nurse who struggles to find a balance between her job in a New York City hospital and all her personal dramas.

6. Riverdale

New to the CW (home of the beloved Gossip Girl) is this teen drama featuring none other than the infamous Archie Comic characters. Follow Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, and some new characters as they try to solve a disturbing mystery following the death of classmate Jason Blossom. While there is only one season available now, you have plenty of time to catch up before season 2 airs on Oct. 11th.

7. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Tina Fey’s newest comedy about a woman (“The Office” alum, Ellie Kemper) being rescued from a doomsday cult in an underground bunker after 15 years and starting her new, normal life in New York has had people talking with good reason. You can catch up on the first three seasons now before the fourth one releases sometime next year.

8. American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson

This limited series starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Sarah Paulson, John Travolta, and David Schwimmer, takes you inside the famous O.J. Simpson trial with exclusive access to the legal teams battling to convict or acquit the football legend of a double homicide. Based off Jeffrey Toobin’s book, “The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson”, we explore the maneuvering on both sides and how an overconfident prosecution combined with the LAPD’s long history with the African-American community gave the jury reasonable doubt.

9. Friends from College

tt“Key & Peele” star Keegan-Michael Key and Cobie Smulders (“How I Met Your Mother”) lead the way in this Netflix original series about, well, friends from college. Following the reunion of a close-knit group of friends who graduated Harvard together and their ambitious, clumsy, romantically intertwined lives in modern day New York City.

10. Shameless

I dare you to look away from this series following the Gallagher family’s alcoholic father and his six children grow and learn to make their way through life with what little they have in lower end of Chicago. Starring William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, and Joan Cusack you can’t lose with this one. Stream the first 7 seasons now.
